Starting Here - Stephen Claybrook

I'm about half way up the cliffs that I've been walking along. Below me is sheer. It would take a braver man than I to attempt to climb down it, and even then I'd fear for his life-- waves, rocks and currents would conspire against him. But above me is more like a steep, rocky hill. I walked one of these to get where I am now. I'll have to walk up one to get home. Occasionally, along the ridge above these hills, I'll see a retaining wall marking the end of some beautiful estate that's just out of my view. This neighborhood, Lamandou, is home to the few, very rich in Jacmel. And I realize that this isn't any different than the rest of my life. I'm trying to walk halfway between the extreme wealth on one side and the death and destruction on the other.
