What I Learned - Movie Marathon

A few weeks ago Gwenn and I made the decision to split up our
furlough. Some issues we were dealing with in our home made it
impossible for us to both leave at once. It was a hard call, yet one
that resonated with us. It's an entirely new set of problems we're
encountering right now. But these are the problems we came to Haiti to
deal with. And that has made this separation, not easier, but at least
bearable.

Back to the task at hand-- I had two and a half weeks in The States
without my wife. And while Nia, Nico, and Josiah are great kids, they
are a little lacking in the intellectual stimulation category, and
they go to bed at eight o'clock. So with Redbox, Netflix, and Hulu
readily available, I made it my goal to watch as many movies as
possible.

Now please don't judge my choice of movies. Some I picked. Some were
spur-of-the-moment selections while others I had been waiting to see
for a long time. Some were suggested to me and others I just found
sitting around. But I've always said that if God created the whole
world, then his truth can be found in everything. And if mankind was
created in God's image then each of us have something to add toward an
understanding of him.

Toward that end. I love movies that make me think. My favorite movies
(and at least one of these is on that list) are depressing. I love to
walk out of a movie with an ache in my heart and in hands. To suddenly
have some cognitive dissonance that I have no choice but to resolve.
But whether or not a movie is depressing, and whether it lends itself
toward it, I always want to walk out of a movie thinking about what I
learned.

And so a new series is born, 11 movies in 11 days (or so): What I Learned.
